At Paperchain Bookstore Manuka we are passionate about books and the written word. That’s why we sponsor a number of initiatives with ACT schools such as the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge in the hope that students will discover the magic of reading and writing for themselves. The Litlinks Paperchain Bookstore Manuka writing awards is the latest of these initiatives, and will be awarded on an annual basis.
We are especially excited about these literary awards as we see it as an excellent opportunity to encourage in a practical way all those budding authors out there. We have had the privilege on several occasions at Paperchain Bookstore Manuka to host the launch of books written by young Canberran writers like Jack Heath who is probably well known to many of you. Jack launched his first book at our bookstore and has since gone on to successfully publish two more, all released at Paperchain Bookstore Manuka.
Paperchain Bookstore Manuka is also presenting awards for the first time this year to creative young writers attending the University of Canberra’s Faulty of Design and Creative Practice. Their literary efforts will be showcased in a publication entitled ‘Tattoo’ and with a foreword by author Garth Nix, also well known to many of you.
So we see a real synergy between our involvement in the Litlinks awards and Canberra University awards and the evolution of a strong writing and literary tradition among young Canberrans. To complete the trajectory for those aspiring to authorship Paperchain Bookstore Manuka also provides financial assistance to the ACT Writers Centre.
